On April 30, nine teams led by students, UK faculty and community members graduated from the Spring 2.0 Entrepreneur’s Bootcamp.

The Bootcamp 2.0 program, run by the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship (VACE) in the Gatton College of Business and Economics, is an intensive program where teams selected from VACE’s Fall Bootcamp 1.0, work through early business and revenue models, customer validation and refining pitches.

Five University of Kentucky alumni are putting their degrees to work by showing support for front-line workers and local restaurants.

With backgrounds in business and medicine, Michael Zhu, Jodi Llanora, Kyle Luo, Logan Jones and John Stein refused to feel helpless in the fight against COVID-19.

“The original idea for Feed the Front Line originated in Houston and started to make its way to other cities,” Zhu said. “When our team heard about the mission of the organization, it immediately resonated. We love the double-sided impact.”

For Haoying Sun, an assistant professor of supply chain management at the University of Kentucky, COVID-19 highlights the growing importance of managing the global supply chains efficiently and effectively.

This fall, Sun plans to incorporate lessons learned from the pandemic into the classroom as the Gatton College of Business and Economics launches a new degree program — a Master of Science in Supply Chain Management.

“I wanted to be a catalyst for change, not only in Kentucky, but in the world.”

In this edition of Simon Says, we offer a behind-the-scenes look at how our faculty and staff are working these days.

You'll hear from Associate Dean Paul Childs, who has worked tirelessly to transfer over 200 courses online mid-semester. Paul goes into detail about how the college proactively prepared for COVID-19 and gives recognition to the many people who have helped along the way.

We are proud to offer students the same high quality access and support - even in this challenging environment.
