Summer is a popular time for students to participate in internships to gain real-world experience to add to their resumes. The pandemic has caused employers to move their internships online, cut their programs short, or cancel internships altogether. This has left many Gatton students with their summer plans not coming to fruition.
During this challenging time, Dean Simon Sheather has announced that the Gatton College will offer extra support to students in need. Thanks to the contributions of generous donors, we are proud to offer a number of Gatton Persistence Scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year.
“Our Persistence Scholarships are a meaningful way to keep moving students in the right direction," said Dean Sheather. "By investing in our students, we believe we can make a direct impact on the university and our community.”
The University of Kentucky Women’s Forum has announced its board members elected for the 2020-2021 academic year, which now includes University of Kentucky MBA alum Candace Bramley-Hardesty. The UK Women's Forum is an organization for all employees of the University — faculty and staff.
This month, we recognize two economics faculty members, Chuck Courtemanche and Aaron Yelowitz. Their research has been featured on several media outlets across the country, including CNN and Fox News. We also recognize students, faculty, and staff for their hard work and dedication with the new SGO Above & Beyond Awards. A special highlight -- Vice Dean Nicole Jenkins as she transitions into her role as Dean of McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. We will miss her!

University of Kentucky MBA alum Dr. Tim Mullett wears many hats: doctor, medical director, thoracic surgeon, reserve surgeon in the Army, cancer survivor, father, and husband. He has overcome many odds, starting with his childhood survival of Reye’s syndrome, a very rare condition that causes swelling in the brain and liver. His diagnosis as a child is what drew him to the medical field.
During nine years at the Gatton College, Harvie Wilkinson has worked tirelessly to increase the quality and efficiency of the MBA program. Wilkinson's dedication to the program includes building an MBA Advisory Board which was crucial in recruiting students, improving the curriculum and job placement. His connections within the community helped build strong partnerships with quality companies for Project Connect, a premier internship feature of the one-year MBA Program.
