Sharpen your soft skills and gain global experience that sets you apart by participating in an education abroad program during your time at UK. Gatton College offers a variety of programs that will keep you on track for graduation.

What are my options?

Semester Study Abroad: Spend a semester abroad taking classes needed for your degree.

  • Partner Programs
    • Study at a foreign university through a program facilitated by a full-service study abroad provider
    • Housing and group activities are arranged by the partner organization
    • Program fee, billed by the partner organization, includes tuition, housing, excursions, and support services
  • Exchange & Direct Programs
    • More immersive experience at a host university, requiring greater independence
    • Exchange programs: Pay a program fee through UK that is comparable to your standard tuition rate
    • Direct programs: Pay tuition directly to the international university at their visiting student tuition rate

Short-Term Study Abroad: Travel abroad during an academic break, earning credit for your degree.

  • UK Faculty-Directed Programs
    • Study abroad with other Gatton and/or UK students, completing 1-2 courses taught by UK faculty
    • Program fee billed through your student account includes coursework, housing, and group activities
  • Partner Programs
    • Similar structure and support as described for semester partner programs but with sessions lasting 3-5 weeks
    • Good option if faculty-directed programs offered through Gatton College don’t meet your needs

International Internships: Gain international and professional experience simultaneously by completing an
internship for academic credit with an organization aligned with your interests. A guaranteed internship placement,
housing, and group activities are arranged by a partner organization. Typical duration: 8-12 weeks.

Start planning now!

  1. Attend a First Steps Session
    1. Learn the basics about education abroad so that you can start the planning process with confidence.
Visit the UK Education Abroad website to view the schedule and sign up for a session.
  2. Plan Courses with your Academic Advisor
    1. Discuss recommended courses to complete during your intended EA term to stay on track for graduation. This
step is especially important if you are participating in a semester program.
  3. Find Your Program
    1. Browse options using the Program Search tool, carefully reviewing the “Program Costs” tab of each brochure
page. Confirm how credit will transfer using the Course Equivalency Management System (CEMS). Meet with
Katherine Hale for guidance selecting your program or planning courses and funding.
  4. Complete Program and Scholarship Applications
    1. Apply for your program, starting with the UK program application. Apply for scholarships through UK Education
Abroad and Gatton College (through Scholarship Universe). Browse additional scholarships on the Education
Abroad website. You may also be able to apply your existing financial aid towards EA costs.
