Students take their ideas to the next level and gain entrepreneurial experience and contacts at the UK Venture Challenge, Saturday, Feb. 20, William T. Young Library, UK Athletic Association Auditorium. Registration is now open for the annual, university-wide competition.


On January 30-31, the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics will host Wall Street Prep’s Financial & Valuation Modeling Seminar for the second time. In October, the college welcomed more than 60 registered students to the first seminar, led by former investment banker and native Kentuckian, Brad Barlow.


Two University of Kentucky teams with an equine focus recently earned top spots in their respective divisions during a local entrepreneurial contest for startup pitches. The competition is part of the Venture Studio Bootcamp in the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship at UK's Gatton College of Business and Economics.

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin this week announced the appointment of Charles G. Snavely as secretary of the Energy and Environment Cabinet. Snavely, a native of Prestonsburg, brings more than 35 years of experience in the coal mining industry to the position. And this month he will complete his MBA degree through the joint UK-UL Executive MBA Program.


Seven faculty members from the University of Kentucky have been selected to participate in the 2015-16 SEC Faculty Travel Program. The program, in its fourth year, provides support for faculty to collaborate with colleagues at other SEC member institutions.

Lexington’s fifth annual Global Entrepreneurship Week kicked off Monday, Nov. 16, evening with the Lexington Venture Club (LVC) announcing that the Central Kentucky entrepreneurial community created 280 new jobs and raised $50.6 million in capital funds in Fiscal Year 2015.


The UK Venture Studio, which is a part of the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship, Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky, will be hosting its second Entrepreneurship Hour and Game Demo Day during Lexington's 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Week. This event is scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.


W. Rodney McMullen, Chairman and CEO of The Kroger Co. was the guest on Monday's "UK at the Half," which aired during the UK vs. Ottowa University game that was broadcast on radio.

Mr. McMullen earned his B.S. in Accounting and M.S. in Accounting all at the Gatton College of Business & Economics, where he is member of the Gatton College Hall of Fame. More recently, Mr. McMullen was inducted into the UK Hall of Distinguished Alumni; the university’s highest honor.
