The Gatton College of Business and Economics is pleased to announce the 2022 Lyman T. Johnson Award recipients. Lyman T. Johnson was a pioneer who challenged the status quo in his landmark court case which opened the University of Kentucky to Black students in 1949. He dedicated his life to fighting against segregation and racial inequalities in Kentucky. The Lyman T. Johnson African American Constituency Group established an endowed scholarship in his name to provide financial assistance to students of color in their pursuit of higher education.

Tyler Kleppe's paper, “Retail shareholders and the efficacy of proxy voting: evidence from auditor ratification,” was accepted for publication in Review of Accounting Studies. The paper is co-authored with Cory Cassell and Jonathan Shipman, both from the University of Arkansas.
The Department of Economics and Institute for the Study for Free Enterprise co-hosted the Federal Reserve Board Governor Christopher Waller on Thursday, October 6, for a lecture on current monetary policy and the economic outlook. The lecture was held in the Gatton College of Business and Economics and was open to the public.

(CNN) — Food insecurity among families with children fell in 2021, reversing a spike during the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a US Department of Agriculture report released Wednesday.
Some 6.2% of households with children, or 2.3 million families, were unable at times to provide adequate, nutritious food for their kids last year, compared with 7.6% in 2020, the report found. Last year’s rate was not significantly different than the 2019 share.
However, the news was not all good.
