The Board of Trustees named Dan Brass as a University Research Professor at their May 1 meeting.  The designation is awarded to "recognize and publicize research accomplishments of scholars across the full range of disciplines at UK."  Vice President for Research Lisa Cassis noted Brass' pioneering research in social network theory, the establishment of the LINKS Center for Social Network Analysis, and the more than 22,000 citations to his research.  Brass joins colleague Steve Borgatti as the second University Research Professor from the Departmen

The LINKS Center for Social Network Analysis hosted the ION8, the eight meeting of the Intra-Organizational Networks Conference.  Scholars from ten different countries met in the Gatton College to present and discuss their latest research findings on the effects of social networks in organizations.  Thanks to conference coordinator Dan Halgin and Connie Blakemore for a very successful two days of stimulating organizational network research.

With the generous support of PNC Bank and John Gohmann, the department hosted the 3rd annual PNC - Kentucky Finance Conference on April 26-28.

The conference received more than 300 submissions from 20 different countries and 35 different states. With only 12 papers being included on the final program, the acceptance rate of less than 4% places the conference in a similar class as the most exclusive finance journals in the world. In addition to our keynote speaker, Laura Starks from UT Austin, conference attendees included faculty from Wharton, UCLA, MIT, Yale, and Columbia.

Congratulations to Leonce Bargeron and Will Gerken who were both promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Finance & Quantitative Methods.

Monika Causholli recently presented her paper titled “Overseeing the external audit function: Evidence from recent audit committee voluntary disclosures” co-authored with Brian Bratten and Valbona Sulcaj at the American Accounting Association Southeast Region Meeting in Greenville, South Carolina.

The Gatton College of Business and Economics is proud to announce the results from the first University of Kentucky stock pitch competition.
