LEXINGTON, Ky., April 15, 2025 (gatton.uky.edu) – The Gatton College of Business and Economics recently hosted its annual Student Awards Day, a spring tradition recognizing the exceptional accomplishments of its students, faculty, and staff. This event celebrates students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance, leadership, and service within the Gatton community, representing the future of business leaders in Kentucky and the world.
Each spring, the college accepts nominations from faculty and staff for outstanding seniors in each academic department. Ultimately, one student is chosen to receive the Dean’s Award for Excellence. This is the most prestigious award that a graduating senior in Gatton can receive. This year’s outstanding seniors were as follows:
Katelyn Cooper- Accounting
Mia Provenzano- Economics
Ashlyn Davis- Marketing
Shawn Brady Hibbitts- Finance
Benjamin Broughton- Management
Benjamin T. Broughton, the Outstanding Senior Award recipient for the Department of Management was honored with this year’s Dean’s Award for Excellence. Described as "authentic,” Benjamin is known for being engaged, thoughtful, and intentional.
“He is the student who listens closely and responds with insight and sincerity, often staying after class to delve deeper into topics,” said Dan Halgin, Associate Professor for Management. “He actively participates in student events and welcomes new members with kindness.”
Broughton is a Global Scholars Pathway/Lewis Honors college student with a double major in Management and Finance and a minor in International Business. He maximized the opportunities offered by Gatton College, including his involvement in the Pathway Program and the Gatton Ambassador program, where he served in multiple leadership roles. Benjamin has served as a teaching assistant for MGT 340 and gained impressive internship experience with GE Aerospace, Fifth Third Bank, and AMEND Consulting in Cincinnati. Upon graduation, Benjamin has accepted a full-time position with AMEND Consulting. Demonstrating an attitude of service, he volunteered to host an information session for other undergraduates to prepare them for the job search process and is involved with groups such as God’s Pantry in the Lexington community.
