1. Tell us about where you grew up, where you went to school, and what brought you to Gatton.

I was born and raised in Buffalo, New York, and attended the State University of New York (SUNY) for my undergraduate degree. My career began at NCR, selling computer systems to manufacturing companies across upstate New York. While working full-time, I spent my evenings at the Rochester Institute of Technology earning my MBA.

I was born in Danville, Kentucky, but I grew up in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The University of Kentucky was always part of my family story—both of my parents have advanced degrees from UK—so I grew up understanding the impact that the University of Kentucky had on their careers.

I grew up in Louisville, but I bled blue from the time I was an infant. Growing up inKentucky, I have always been surrounded by a strong sense of community and schoolpride, which has shaped me into who I am today. Looking back, I have always beenaround the University of Kentucky, whether it was going to watch UK’s 2014 undefeatedteam, or watching my Mom speak at an entrepreneurship graduate class, UK has


Brian Scroggins, a graduate of the University of Kentucky’s MBA/JD dual degree program, now works as senior manager of casino operations at DraftKings, one of the world’s leading sports gaming and entertainment companies. As the NCAA Tournament approaches each spring, his work sits at the intersection of sports, analytics, technology and regulation — a career path that began during his time at UK.


Entrepreneurship at the Gatton College of Business and Economics is no longer confined to a single center or elective course. It is becoming a coordinated effort spanning new faculty hires, expanded programming, community partnerships and a growing pipeline that now reaches into Kentucky’s high schools.
