Dan Stone and Michael (Chuancai) Zhang presented their paper coauthored with Hong Xie and Vikram Gazula (Center for Computational Sciences) at the Commonwealth Computing Summit. Title, “Cloud-Based Text Analytics: Harvesting, Cleaning, and Analyzing Corporate Earnings Conference Calls.”
Brian Bratten and Monika Causholli’s paper (co-authored with Linda Myers), titled, “Fair Value Exposure, Auditor Specialization, and Banks’ Discretionary Use of the Loan Loss Provision” was accepted for publication at Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance.
Monika Causholli recently presented her paper "Ties that bind: Knowledge networks and auditor performance" co-authored with Theresa Floyd, Nicole Jenkins and Scott Soltis, at Maastricht University and Vrije University, in the Netherlands.
Congratulations to Professor Jennifer Siebenthaler (Faculty Advisor) and the Alpha Mu Chapter on their outstanding efforts during the 2016-2017 academic year. The Beta Alpha Psi Board of Directors October 9th announced that the chapter has received international recognition as a Superior Chapter and will receive an award of $500. The financial support for this award is graciously sponsored by KPMG and the KPMG Foundation. Recognition as a Superior Chapter is a significant accomplishment.
Michael Chuancai Zhang (PhD student), Dan Stone, and Hong Xie’s paper entitled, "Text Data Sources in Archival Accounting Research: Insights and Strategies for Accounting Systems' Scholars" has been accepted for publication in the American Accounting Association’s Journal of Information Systems.
Monika Causholli was an invited faculty at the PhD symposium associated with the European Auditing Research Network conference held in Leuven, Belgium.
Nicole Thorne Jenkins presented her paper titled "Ties that bind: Knowledge sharing networks and auditor performance" co-authored with Monika Causholli, Theresa Floyd, and Scott Soltis at the American Accounting Association’s annual meeting in August.
In addition, she also presented her paper titled "Thick as Thieves: Reciprocity between Compensation Peers " co-authored with Paquita Davis-Friday and Chong Wang at the American Accounting Association’s annual meeting in August.
Brian Bratten and David Hulse were awarded the Journal of the Accounting Taxation Association (JATA) Best Paper Award for their paper titled, “Retroactive tax legislation, reported earnings, and investors’ responses to earnings ‘surprises’: Evidence from R&D credit extensions,” at the AAA Annual Meeting in San Diego on August 7.
Jana Wilhelm, Instructor in the Von Allmen School, received the Best Paper Award for 2017 Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting of the American Accounting Associations for her Paper with Paul Wilhelm (Sullivan University) "Proposed Multidimensional Fraud Risk Models: Auditing for Dark Tetrad Individuals and Their Opposites in Organizations."
Monika Causholli presented her paper titled "Ties that bind: Knowledge sharing networks and auditor job performance" co-authored with Theresa Floyd, Nicole Jenkins and Scott Soltis at The European Accounting Association annual meeting in Valencia (Spain), The University of Pisa (Italy), and The Free University of Bolzano (Italy).
