Gatton College Faculty Member, David Hardesty, to Receive AMA Lifetime Achievement Award
PHOENIX, Az., February 2025 The Gatton College of Business and Economics is proud to announce that David Hardesty, Ph.D,Gatton Endowed Chair and University Research Professor, has been selected to receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Marketing Association's (AMA) Retail and Pricing Special Interest Group (RAPSIG). This significant honor recognizes Hardesty's outstanding contributions to the fields of retailing and pricing research over the past two decades.
Hardesty is a University Research Professor and holds the Carol Martin Gatton Endowed Chair of Marketing. He has been a vital member of our College, serving in several leadership roles, including Department Chair, Director of the Behavioral Research Lab, and Director of Graduate Studies. Before joining Gatton, he was a faculty member at the University of Miami and the University of Southern Mississippi.
Dr. Hardesty's research record is impressive, with over 40 peer-reviewed publications and nearly 8,000 citations in top journals, such as the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, and the Journal of Retailing. His research focuses on the behavioral aspects of pricing, emotional intelligence, knowledge, political ideology, and measurement. He is currently working on projects related to double discounting, private label brands, and sports betting.
Dr. Hardesty plays an active role in the broader marketing academic community. He serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Marketing (beginning in March) and the Journal of Retailing, and he is on the editorial review board for the Journal of Marketing Research. Over the years, he has served on review boards for other leading journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research and has co-edited special issues on pricing. He has also been recognized as a Best Reviewer multiple times.
In the classroom, Dr. Hardesty's primary focus has been on Marketing Research and Research Methods. His dedication to the Gatton College has been recognized with several awards, including the Gatton College Above and Beyond Award in 2024, the University Research Professor title in 2017, and the Robertson Outstanding Gatton Faculty Research Award in 2011. He was also named the most outstanding faculty member in the University of Kentucky's MBA program and received the Bell South Outstanding Professor Award at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Beyond academia, Dr. Hardesty is actively involved in the community, serving on the Board of Trustees for The Club at Spindletop, coaching high school tennis, and consulting with organizations such as NASA and the Promotional Products Association International. He has also served as an expert witness in scanner pricing accuracy cases.
The AMA RAPSIG Lifetime Achievement Award will be officially presented at the RAPSIG reception during the AMA Winter Educators Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, on February 15, 2025.
