Kristine Hankins' Research Presented at American Finance Association Annual Meeting

Kristine Hankins had two papers on the program of the American Finance Association (AFA) Annual Meeting. Both "Understanding Precautionary Cash," co-authored with Mike Faulkender and Mitchell Petersen, and “Risk Management with Supply Contracts”, co-authored with Heitor Almeida and Ryan Williams, were presented on January 8.

Ma presents at ASSA Meetings

Lala Ma presented “Estimating Heterogeneous Preferences to Avoid Flood Risk and the Implications for Disaster Exposure” (co-authored with Laura Bakkensen) at ASSA Annual Meetings, Chicago, IL” on January 6, 2017 with her co-author, Elaine Hill, “Shale Gas Development and Drinking Water Quality” (co-authored with Elaine Hill) which has been accepted for publication in the American Economic Review Paper and Proceedings.

Malkova presents work on Pension Taxes & Labor Supply

Olga Malkova presented The Effect of Pension Tax Reductions on Labor Supply at the ASSA meetings in Chicago on January 8.

Brad Jordan and Mark Liu's paper receives a "Best Paper in Corporate Finance" Award

Brad Jordan, Mark Liu and Soohyung Kim (UK alum who just started at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse) have a paper entitled "Corporate Risk-Taking in Dual-Class Firms" that just received the Review of Financial Economics "Best Paper in Corporate Finance" Award at the Annual Meeting of the Southwestern Finance Association, 2017.

Accounting research presentation

  Accounting Professor Jeff Payne, Russell Williamson (doctoral student), and Chong Wang (doctoral student) will be presenting  ”Audit pricing and audit quality: The influence of Livability” at the American Accounting Association Mid-Year Auditing Meeting in January 2017.

Three More Publications in Premiere Marketing Journals

Aaron Garvey's paper (with Margaret Maloy, Penn State University, and Baba Shiv, Stanford University), “The Jilting Effect: Antecedents, Mechanisms, and Consequences for Preference,” is forthcoming at the Journal of Marketing Research.  Adam Craig's paper (with Marisabel Romero, Colorado State), “Costly Curves: How Human-Like Shapes Can Increase Spending,” is forthcoming at the Journal of Consumer Research.

Faculty Wins Sustainability Grant

Anita Lee-Post and her team (Brent Sturlaugson and Bruce Swetnam from Architecture, Rebekah Radtke from Interior Design, and Yoonbai Kim from Economics) received the University's 2017 sustainability challenge grant to fund a research project, “Measuring Up: Sustainability Assessment of Campus Buildings at the University of Kentucky”.  The goals of the project are (1) to expand the definition and evaluation of sustainability in the built environment to include environmental, social, and economic factors, and (2) to create a comprehensive metric that considers triple bottom line impacts.

Joe Labianca's paper “Sociometric Status and Peer Control Attempts: A Multiple Status Hierarchies Approach,” (with DeKlepper, M., Sleebos, E., & Agneessens, F.) was accepted for publication at  Journal of Management Studies. Wally Ferrier's paper, “Does It Pay To Compete Aggressively? Contingent Roles of Internal and External Resources” (with Goce Andrevsky) was accepted for publication at Journal of Management.

Nancy Johnson Receives 2016 Outstanding Faculty Award

Nancy Johnson, Associate Dean of International Affairs and Associate Professor of Management in the Gatton College, has been honored with the UK Confucius Institute’s 2016 Outstanding Faculty Award. This award recognizes faculty who have done outstanding work towards the understanding of and learning about China on campus and beyond. The Steering Committee of the Confucius Institute selected Dr. Johnson to receive this award based on her work developing partnerships with Chinese institutions and working with Chinese students and Chinese scholars at Gatton.
