Carlos Lamarche named 2024-25 University Research Professors

Carlos Lamarche, Ph.D., director of graduate studies and Gatton Endowed Professor of Economics in the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics, has been honored as a 2024-25 University Research Professor. Lamarche studies econometrics — a combination of economics, statistics and mathematics that aims to give empirical content to economic relationships. He focuses on the development of estimation methods for a more informative and robust analysis of microeconomic data.

VASOA research cited in PCAOB proposals

Research from the Von Allmen School of Accountancy faculty, (Brian Bratten, Monika Causholli, Tyler Kleppe and Hong Xie), were cited in two proposed rule changes by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). The PCAOB is the top auditing regulator in the U.S. and is responsible for regulating audits of public companies in the U.S.

Patel and Hoyt Paper About The Econ Games published in The American Economist

Darshak Patel and Gail Hoyt's paper, co-authored with Gatton alum Dr. Abdullah Al Bahrani, "Facilitating Authentic Practice & Content Acquisition Through Competition: The Econ Games" has been published in The American Economist.

Nate Morris Fellowship: Nicholas Relich

Nicholas Relich graduated in May 2024 with a double major in Economics and Political Science and a minor in Mathematics. This year, he was awarded the prestigious Nate Morris Fellowship, an opportunity he learned about through Gatton College’s communications and his professors.

SEC cites Gatton research on climate risk disclosures in new regulation

According to recent research from Gatton doctoral student Mark Cheng, climate risk disclosures are informative. Working with Gatton Professor Brian Bratten, Cheng studied how managers’ disclosures about climate risks in conference calls are incorporated by investors.
