What Can Wayne Gretzky Teach Us About Motivating Healthy Behaviors?

If most people are engaging in healthy behaviors, such as eating a healthy diet or exercising regularly, that information can be used to motivate others to also engage in those behaviors. But when the reality is that most people don’t engage in healthy behaviors, how can consumers be motivated to start? New research by Aaron Garvey and colleagues finds that promoting increasing adoption of healthy behaviors, even when a majority of the population doesn’t engage in them, may hold the answer.

Four Gatton Students inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa

The University of Kentucky Nu Circle of national leadership honor society Omicron Delta Kappa (OΔK) inducted 43 new members this year.  OΔK recognizes superior leadership and exemplary character and encourages collaboration among members across the five phases celebrated by the society: scholarship, athletics, service, communications and arts. Tyler Kleppe was recently added to the editorial board of The Accounting Review (TAR). TAR is one of the oldest and leading academic journals in accounting. 

Gatton faculty represented at AAA Auditing Section Midyear Meeting and AAA FARS Midyear Meeting

The Von Allmen School of Accountancy was well represented at two conferences this month, The AAA Auditing Section Midyear Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana and the AAA FARS Midyear Meeting in Denver, Colorado.

5 Gatton College Professors Named in Top 2% of World’s Researchers for 2022

The University of Kentucky is well-represented on a list of the most-cited researchers in the world. In a database compiled by Stanford University in a partnership with Elsevier, 143 current UK scientists and scholars appear among the top 2% of the most-cited researchers across 22 disciplines.

Brian Bratten's paper "On the Informativeness of Unexpected Exclusions from Street Earnings," co-authored with Stephannie Larocque (University of Notre Dame) and Teri Yohn (Emory University) has been accepted for publication at Contemporary Accounting Research. 

Andie Savoree receives 2023 Mobley 'Rising Achievement' Award highlighting leadership

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 12, 2023) — On Thursday, Dec. 7, the University of Kentucky Office of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement celebrated four university employees at the 2023 Terry B. Mobley Philanthropy Awards ceremony. The Mobley Awards honor Terry Mobley's distinguished advancement career by rewarding staff members and volunteers who have made substantial, impactful contributions to the university’s philanthropic mission.

Ashland Oil Research Fellow and Assistant Professor, Tyler Kleppe's co-authored paper, "Demand Uncertainty and the Production of Audit Services," was recently accepted for publication in Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory.

Benguria's paper forthcoming in the Journal of Human Resources

(December 6, 2023) Felipe Benguria's paper "The Impact of NAFTA on U.S. Local Labor Market Employment" is forthcoming in the Journal of Human Resources. The paper studies the impact of the North American Free Trade Agreement on communities across the US. 

CEO Showdown: UK Students Compete in High-Stakes Simulation

Earlier this month, the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics in collaboration with the Institute for the Study of Free Enterprise (ISFE) hosted The CEO Challenge, a dynamic business simulation competition offering students an immersive experience as CEO’s managing a multi-billion-dollar company.
