The University of Kentucky’s Master of Science in Strategic Human Resource Management and Analytics (SHRMA) is a 30 credit-hour graduate program focused on preparing students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to elevate a career in HR.

This program provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to adapt to changes in the field of HR and elevate organizational contributions. In addition to fundamental HR courses, students will be exposed to coursework in HR-based analytics (people analytics, organizational network analysis, research methods, and HRIS) as well as strategic HR (strategic planning and integration, change management, and negotiations and conflict resolution). The program includes an experiential capstone course giving students the opportunity to apply principles and techniques learned in their coursework to solve real organizational problems.

ADMISSIONS

Application Process

At the University of Kentucky, members of our Master of Science in Strategic Human Resource Management and Analytics community make positive contributions to their chosen fields and fellow members of the cohort. Our program builds a tight-knit group of individuals who accompany each other on this journey. The ideal candidate is thoughtful and driven with the desire to develop further their leadership skills and the initiative to expand their tool belt on a timeline that best suits them.

Application Deadlines

Domestic Students

  • Fall semester: July 26th
  • Spring semester: December 10th

International Students

  • Fall semester: April 15th
  • Spring semester: September 15th

Here are the steps to apply.

1. Application

Complete an online application and submit the application fee. An application is considered complete/ready for review once all supporting documents have been received by the University of Kentucky Graduate School.

This program starts in late August for Fall semester and early January for Spring semester. Applicants must complete the program specific application requirements to be considered for admission into the degree program. Incomplete files will not be reviewed.

Once the application is complete, it will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee within 3-4 weeks of admission.

    • Upload digital copies of your unofficial test scores and transcripts from all universities attended using the online application.
    • Once admitted, official transcripts are required.

  • GMAT/GRE (optional for 2024-2025)*
  • Personal Statement: Discuss career goals, your interest in HR, and why you are applying to our program
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 (out of 4.0)
  • Interview (upon request)
  • $65 application fee

Writing samples, and statements of purpose are not required.

International candidates: Learn more about additional/differing requirements:

  • English Proficiency waivers are required for all applicants whose native language is not English.
  • For the Graduate School, the minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5.
  • $75 application fee

English Proficiency Waiver Information

English Proficiency waivers can be offered to students who earned their bachelors' degrees from other U.S. universities. Waivers may also be considered to students whose institutions will document that all of their instruction was in English.

International candidates in the program must take at least nine credit hours per semester in order to maintain the full-time student status. Candidates may apply for a reduced course load the last semester.

3. GRE and GMAT Information

Currently, both GRE and GMAT scores are being waived for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 admissions.

GRE/GMAT scores are not mandatory. However, if you choose to submit them to support your application, the Institution Code for the UK Graduate School is 1837 for both GMAT and GRE.

Cost of Attendance

Tuition and Fees

Tuition will be billed equally over three semesters, and the University program fee is billed over the fall and spring semesters. The Becker CPA Review course is optional, and students will pay Becker directly. The Becker fee for the 2023/24 academic year is estimated to be $3,000.


Financial Assistance

Program Level Funding Opportunities
The MS-SHRMA program provides a limited number of partial scholarships each year on the dual basis of need and merit.

External Funding Opportunities
Students may also pursue external funding opportunities. The SHRM Foundation offers several graduate-level scholarships each year.

The SHRMA program does not offer assistantships.
