Aaron Yelowitz is a professor of Economics at the University of Kentucky and a senior fellow at the Cato Institute. He specializes in health economics, public finance, labor markets, and housing policy with a focus on the causal effects of government programs on individual behavior and market outcomes.
His research has been published in leading economics journals including the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Public Economics and the Journal of Human Resources. His work on topics ranging from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act to housing affordability and occupational licensing has been cited more than 5,400 times.
Professor Yelowitz serves as a testifying expert witness in economic litigation with experience in fair housing, public policy and labor market disputes. He has provided expert testimony in federal and state courts and has testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship and the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
His policy research and commentary have been featured in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, National Public Radio, Forbes and numerous other national outlets. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Labor Research, Public Finance Review and Inquiry.
Professor Yelowitz holds a Ph.D. in Economics from MIT and previously served on the faculty at UCLA. He has supervised more than a dozen doctoral dissertations and teaches courses in public finance and health economics at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
