Congrats to Econ Majors

Congratulations to Economics majors Ross Hildabrand, Rick Guha, and Zach Storms who presented their research projects at the Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars. Ross presented a poster on his research on "Fayette County Property Values" (Mentor: William Hoyt) and Rick presented a poster on his research on "Brand Recognition on Equity Performance" (Mentor: Chrs Bollinger). Zach gave an oral presentation on "A State-level Analysis of Incarceration and Unemployment in the United Staes" (Mentor: Chris Bollinger). 

Stephen Borgatti's Social Network Research Featured in RCTF Annual Report

Recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty is an integral part of the mission of the University of Kentucky's Research Challenge Trust Fund, and each year the university highlights four outstanding endowed chairs and professors. This year's annual report, approved by the UK Board of Trustees Feb. 19, featured Stephen P. Borgatti, Chellgren Chair in Corporate Strategy. Borgatti is a professor in the UK Gatton College of Business and Economics and his expertise is in social network analysis — the study of how people are connected to each other.

Commerce Lexington and Gatton College Offer Executive MBA Scholarship

Through a partnership formed between Commerce Lexington Inc. and the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics, a scholarship in the amount of $15,000 will be available to a Commerce Lexington member to help eliminate a portion of the cost of the UK/UofL Executive MBA program, beginning in August 2016.

UK to Award Top Innovator with 2016 Supply Chain Award

Submissions are being accepted until March 1 for the 2016 Commonwealth Supply Chain Innovation Award competition, sponsored by SAS. This award recognizes individuals or organizations that have demonstrated operational excellence in supply chain management as evidenced in a recently completed supply chain improvement project.

Firms frequently promise consumers that use of their brands will improve performance outcomes. Whether it's a high school athlete considering the premier brands of basketball shoes, or a college student weighing which graduate test prep course to take, a ubiquitous marketing message remains “you will perform better with us.”

UK Student Entrepreneurs Take First Place at Georgia Bowl

A team of University of Kentucky students captured first place this past weekend at the Georgia Bowl intercollegiate entrepreneurship competition hosted by Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia. Team Race Assured, comprising Julia Fabiani, an undergraduate student in equine science and physiology, Ben Martin, a graduate student in finance and agricultural economics, and Stefanie Pagano, a graduate student in biomedical engineering earned a $2,500 cash prize for their efforts.

Two UK Venture Bootcamp Teams Earn Top Awards

Two University of Kentucky teams with an equine focus recently earned top spots in their respective divisions during a local entrepreneurial contest for startup pitches. The competition is part of the Venture Studio Bootcamp in the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship at UK's Gatton College of Business and Economics.

Former BB&T CEO Addresses Gatton College Community

The University of Kentucky's Gatton College of Business and Economics recently welcomed Chairman of the Cato Institute’s Center for Monetary and Financial Alternatives John Allison. More than 200 students attended his talk, titled "The Philosophic Fight for the Future of America," in the college’s brand new Kincaid Auditorium. “I always enjoy the opportunity to talk to bright young people who will be future leaders in our society,” said Allison. “I believe this information is very important to the quality of their lives and their children’s lives.”

UK's Gatton Alumni Hall of Fame Inducts Foran, Liang, Vest

Surrounded by family, friends and fellow alumni, three exceptional University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business & Economicsalumni — Joseph Wm. Foran (Dallas, Texas), Youguo Liang (Abu Dhabi, UAE), and Rebecca Barker Vest (Franklin, Tennessee) — were recently inducted into the Gatton Alumni Hall of Fame.

UK asst. professor wins top award from Journal of Marketing

Brian R. Murtha, assistant professor of marketing and E. Vernon and William Smith Faculty Fellow at the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics, was awarded the prestigious American Marketing Association’s Journal of Marketing’s 2015 Harold H.
