In today’s data-driven world, business success demands leveraging and harnessing data to tell compelling stories.

The Gatton College of Business and Economics announces a Business Analytics minor. Classes beginning this fall include Introduction to Business Analytics (AN 300) and Business Intelligence and Data Visualization (AN 306). Comprised of five required courses and one elective, the two-year program is open to upper division Gatton Business & Economics students – and other University of Kentucky students with appropriate coursework – who seek to gain the hottest skills in business. Students who fulfill the prerequisites may either complete the minor or take any of the available courses within the minor.

Why study Business Analytics?

Applied in nearly every industry, business analytics is the art and science of harvesting, cleaning and structuring data to create compelling stories that inform business decisions.

Companies are collecting more and more data but need professionals who can efficiently and effectively control these data. Gatton’s Business Analytics minor provides students with the tools to capture, analyze and generate meaningful business insights from big data and create informative visuals that are both striking and impactful.

Working in business analytics differs from the more technical roles of data engineering and architecture. In contrast to roles that focus on the technologies of data harvesting, cleaning and storage, business analysts apply their skills at matching data to business problems in a variety of industries including financial firms, web-based businesses, athletics, retail and food companies, media companies and marketing companies or to launch their own businesses.

Business success in today’s global economy depends on using data to solve the world’s biggest, most daunting problems. Become the next generation of digital business analysts.
