Current MBA student at the University of Kentucky's Gatton College of Business and Economics, Amy Nutt, will be starting as a Senior Financial Analyst at Procter & Gamble (P&G) after graduating from the One Year MBA this May of 2019. Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, P&G serves nearly 5 billion people around the world with its brands. P&G has one of the strongest brand portfolios with 23 Billion-Dollar Brands and operates in approximately 70 countries all over the world. Some of their recent recognitions include World’s Most Admired Companies (Fortune), Most Reputable Companies (Forbes), Best Places to Work (Glassdoor), Top 50 Companies for Diversity (Diversity Inc.) and Top Companies for Executive Women (National Association for Female Executives). Amy's new leadership role involves working in teams to support strategy setting, decision-making, business planning and analysis across all aspects of the business. "The UK MBA program was definitely a major factor in securing this new position at P&G," says Amy. "The program and faculty, along with the career team, really helped me feel more prepared and confident to secure this career opportunity."
The Graham Office of Career Management at the Gatton College of Business and Economics works closely with the university’s Stuckert Career Center to provide comprehensive career management services to Gatton's students and employers. The mission is dedicated to assisting students in their career development process and employment success by working closely with employers who seek to hire world ready interns and graduates.
"The Graham Office was a big reason that I got this job at P&G," says Amy. "Taking advantage of these services early on allowed me to build a strong relationship with my career counselor, Sandy Anderson. She helped me sharpen my interview skills and really prepare me for my job search.” Amy's academic background and career aspirations before joining the UK MBA program was in public health, psychology and healthcare management. After attending an MBA Open House event last year, she felt that it was important to pursue different skills in graduate school.
Amy says, "I wanted to be more versatile and didn't want to limit myself. I didn't have any work experience either, thus it was important for me to join a program where I could expand my knowledge, build more connections and network. I found that in the UK MBA and it was one of the best decisions that I've ever made." The built-in internship called Project Connect is a unique experience in the One Year MBA program at the University of Kentucky's Gatton College of Business and Economics, allowing MBA student groups to work on real-world projects of importance at reputable companies. Amy was assigned to Brown-Forman (based in Louisville, KY) which is one of the largest American-owned companies in the spirits and wine business. Her team worked on marketing research projects, built consumer personas, analyzed data and delivered a marketing plan to help Brown Form consider introducing a new product to their portfolio.
When asked about offering advice to candidates considering an MBA, Amy says, "Don't be afraid. Everyone in the program starts essentially on the same page. The program does a tremendous job of bringing in talented and diverse candidates into the cohort. We are always working in teams and I've learned so much from my classmates."
Amy Nutt received her undergraduate degree in Public Health with a minor in Psychology at the University of Kentucky before joining Gatton's One Year MBA in 2018. While at UK, Amy was involved in the Panhellenic Council, Kappa Alpha Theta Women's Fraternity, DanceBlue Marathon Team Captain and was a UK 101 Peer Instructor.
