An article entitled "Regulatory Benefit-Cost Analysis – Advice for a New Presidential Term," by Glenn Blomquist, Professor of Economics and Public Policy Emeritus, was presented at ASSA 2021 Annual Meeting.

Patel Participates in EconTEAching Seminar

On December 2, 2020, Darshak Patel was a panelist at the 11th EconTEAching seminar. The livestreamed event was hosted by the Centre for Teaching and Learning Economics (CTaLE) at University College London and University of Warwick. It focused on the important questions of how careers in economics teaching have developed in higher education and what can be done to increase the profile of teaching track careers. 

Liu Receives Honorable Mention in Oswald Research and Creativity Competition

Economics undergraduate student Elena Liu (Mentor: Dr. Yoko Kusunose) received an honorable mention in the social sciences category of the 56th Oswald Research and Creativity Competition for her work, "The Coffee in Your Cup: Reviewing Fair Trade’s Impact on Development."   

U.S. Senate Confirms Former Gatton Faculty Member Christopher Waller as Federal Reserve Governor

Christopher Waller, executive vice president and research director at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Federal Reserve governor. The Federal Reserve System comprises the Board of Governors along with 12 independent Reserve banks across the country. Waller will fill a currently unexpired term ending Jan. 31, 2030.

They touch on being an international student, Patel's tips for teaching large (500-student) lectures, why you should consider University of Kentucky's economics doctoral program, and belonging in the profession. 

Patel Participates in Panel Sessions

On November 5 and 6, Darshak Patel was part of a panel session on "Creating Engaging Large-Enrollment Classroom Experiences: Remotely or (again someday) in Person" at the 2020 St. Louis Fed Professors Conference. The panel consisted of Martha Olney (University of California, Berkeley), and  Aselia Urmanbetova (Georgia Institute of Technology) and moderated by Gail Heyne Hafer (St. Louis Community College-Meramec).
