Susan Zhu is an Assistant Professor of Management at University of Kentucky and a Research Fellow at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Susan's research interests include workplace decision-making, recruitment and staffing, and leadership. Her research focuses on understanding how employees at work make judgments and decisions, and how these judgments and decisions impact individual, team, and Human Resources (HR) functioning. Her research has been published in the Journal of Management, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Business and Psychology, Journal of Behavioral Decision Making, MIT Sloan Management Review and others.Susan regularly conducts applied research on a variety of organizational topics (e.g., recruitment & selection, skill-based training, leadership development) with industry and government partners. She has also worked with the Department of Commerce and the White House on research to inform policy on modernizing recruitment & hiring and encouraging employer-led training for US businesses. Her previous work experience includes consulting on selection, engagement, and organizational change projects for clients across various industries (e.g., healthcare, retail, construction, financial) at IBM Talent Management. Susan is currently the PI on a $1.8 million grant from the Department of Defense researching the impact of social ostracism within the military (2021 to 2024).Susan received her Ph.D. from University of Connecticut and B.A. from Wake Forest University. Prior to joining University of Kentucky, she was a post-doctoral research fellow at SHRM and a visiting scholar at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.
