Are you from Lexington? If not, where?
No, I grew up in a family with a military background, so I’ve lived in many states. However, I have lived in Elizabethtown, Kentucky the longest, so that’s usually where I say I’m from.

How did Gatton help prepare you for success?
Gatton has provided me with several mentors that have helped guide me professionally and personally, as well as numerous leadership positions. I’ve been able to successfully lead workshops, meetings, and presentations to current students and staff.

Tell us about your role with the National Association of Black Accountants. What do you do for the organization and how has it helped you?
I’ve served as treasurer and most recently, president of NABA. I run our general body meetings and oversee our executive board. NABA has pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone. It has expanded my network of professionals and students that share my passion for uplifting minority business students.

How do you manage a healthy work/life balance?
Organization and planning help me to not feel overwhelmed. I always plan out my week on Sundays, so I’m aware of all my assignments and events. Being aware of my limits also helps me stay balanced. I’ve learned it’s okay to not always be available. I also have three main self-care activities: exercise, cooking, and reading (for leisure).

Do you have any career advice for potential students?
I encourage students to explore all career options. You don’t have to come into college with a set career - there are many opportunities available to gain knowledge about different career paths. I would also encourage students to visit the Graham Center for Career Management to gain insight on resumes, internships, and overall guidance on their career journeys.

Where do you see yourself in five years? Ten?
In five years, I see myself as a manager at a big four accounting firm. I also see myself with one dog and traveling around the country. In ten years, I see myself married with three kids and at least two dogs. I could see myself transitioning out of public accounting and into private - or starting my own firm!

Which living person do you most admire?
Michelle Obama. She leads with class and poise. Her memoir, “Becoming,” is a great book and has become a staple in my journey of evolving into an adult.

Favorite quote or motto?
“Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs only to the people who prepare for it today.” – Malcolm X

What would be your perfect day?
An amusement park or at the beach. I love rollercoasters and soaking up the sun!
