Notes for Apple Devices:
- Newer Apple Macbooks that come with the M1, M1 Pro, or M1 Max processors; some softwares are still not compatible with Apple's custom silicon, in those cases they have provided a workaround with an app called Rosetta. Even with this workaround though, expect for there to be some issues when running software that doesn't support these new processors.
- If you choose to go with an Apple device, it is more than likely you will run into software that cannot run on MacOS and will require a Windows OS to use. In those cases, you will need working knowledge of a Windows emulating software such as BootCamp or Parallels in order to get those softwares running on your machine.
Windows vs Apple vs Other Devices:
Windows-based devices are simply the most compatible and cost-effective option for most students. They will run all the software you will need for classes and are easier to troubleshoot when something goes wrong. Apple devices will work and many students do use them without issue, but when something does go wrong or specialized software is needed things can get complicated very quickly. Chromebooks and tablets (iPads, Android, Windows RT, etc.) are NOT recommended as they will not provide the necessary functionality for your classes.
