University of Kentucky Masters of Accounting student, Brooklyn Heideman has passed the Tableau Desktop Specialist exam on her very first try. An interactive data visualization software company, Tableau Software recommends that those planning to take the exam have at least three months of experience working with Tableau, but Heideman did it in only 2 and a half weeks.
Brian Bratten presented his paper titled, “The role of Passive Investment in the Quality of Stock Repurchase Activity” at the University of Missouri on February 14. The paper is co-authored with PhD candidate Meng Huang and Jeff Payne.
Four Pelissier Scholars and finance majors, Bryce Kushner, Andrew Buskill, Connor McKee, and Graham Sparks (pictured L-R), recently passed the December 2019 CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Level I Exam, which had a pass rate of 42 percent. The four students received scholarship support from the Gatton College, supervised by professors Will Gerken and Grant Clayton.
PhD candidate Jenny Wang presented her paper titled, “Man versus Machine: Complex Estimates and Auditor Reliance on Artificial Intelligence” at the Audit Mid-Year Meeting in Houston, Texas. This paper is co-authored with Benjamin Commerford, Sean Dennis (University of Central Florida), and Jennifer Joe (University of Delaware).
Frank Scott’s paper with David Barrus, “Single Bidders and Tacit Collusion in Highway Procurement Auctions” has been accepted for publication in The Journal of Industrial Economics.
Noting that prosperity is increasingly tied to place and preparation, the Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER)—the applied economic research branch of the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky—released its 48th Kentucky Annual Economic Report today.
Giuseppe (Joe) Labianca, Gatton Chaired Professor of Management, recently published "Negative Ties and Signed Graphs Research: Stimulating Research on Dissociative Forces in Social Networks" along with Nicholas M. Harrigan and Filip Agneessens. This was the introduction to the special issue of the Journal of Social Networks on negative ties and signed graphs which the three co-edited.
Giuseppe (Joe) Labianca, Gatton Chaired Professor of Management, gave an invited presentation at the 2020 NetSciX conference at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan on January 20 entitled, "Recognizing the Positive and Negative Ties in a Network." PhD candidate Valbona Sulcaj presented her paper titled “Overseeing the External Audit Function: Evidence from Audit Committees’ Reported Activities” at the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee. The paper is co-authored with Brian Bratten and Monika Causholli.
