University of Kentucky Provost David Blackwell on Wednesday announced that Simon J. Sheather has been selected as the next dean of UK’s Gatton College of Business and Economics, pending approval by the UK Board of Trustees.

Sheather currently is professor and interim director of Texas A&M University’s Institute of Data Science, as well as academic director of MS (Analytics) and Online Programs in the Department of Statistics. Texas A&M, like UK, is a member of the Southeastern Conference.

Remember a few years ago when airline ticket fares increased dramatically due to surcharges which were added quickly in response to sharply rising fuel costs? Even though fuel prices have moderated substantially, many, if not most, of the higher fares are here to stay. And yet such pricing practices, dubbed “asymmetric pricing” by academics, seem to be less prevalent in other parts of the world. For example, similar fuel surcharges were revoked in Japan and the Philippines.

Gatton College of Business and Economics senior finance majors Tyler May, Joseph Back and Joy Gilfillan brought home the grand prize at this year’s national stock pitch competition hosted recently by the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia. The competition brings students together with leaders from the investment community to showcase their skills in equity research and fundamental analysis, and to pitch stocks and get industry pros to evaluate them and give feedback on their work.

 University of Kentucky's Gatton College of Business and Economics presented the fourth annual Commonwealth Supply Chain Innovation Award, sponsored by SAS, to John Lindsey, supply chain manager for R.J. Corman Material Sales in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The presentation ceremony was held during Thursday’s eighth annual Supply Chain Forum, held in the Woodford Reserve Club at Kroger Field.

 University of Kentucky Provost David W. Blackwell has named Warren W. Rosenthal Professor of Marketing Steven J. Skinner to the position of interim dean of the Gatton College of Business and Economics. Skinner begins his new duties immediately. Blackwell had served as dean of the Gatton College until his appointment as UK's provost.

University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto announced Tuesday that the dean of the Gatton College of Business and Economics will be UK’s next provost.

David Blackwell will begin his duties as provost on Jan. 8, Capilouto said in a campus-wide announcement today. Blackwell has served as dean of the Gatton College since 2012, a time of tremendous growth and transformation.
