Jon Wuerzburger knew since the age of eight that he wanted to serve in the United States Air Force. But he also aspired to one day become a Wildcat because of family ties back in Kentucky. After serving as an aircraft mechanic and the youngest C-17 flying crew chief in the Air Force, he decided to pursue his higher education goals at the University of Kentucky as a management major in the Gatton College of Business and Economics.

Aaron Garvey, assistant professor of marketing in the Gatton College, is finding new ways that branding and marketing affect consumer behavior. One of his recent research studies reveals that brands of sports equipment can improve human performance through purely psychological means that are unrelated to functional differences in a branded product’s materials, craftsmanship, or design.

The University of Kentucky's Gatton College of Business and Economics presented the third annual Commonwealth Supply Chain Innovation Award, sponsored by SAS, to Brad Fruth, worldwide compliance manager for Lexmark. The presentation ceremony took place during Thursday’s seventh annual Supply Chain Conference, held in the Woodford Reserve Club at Commonwealth Stadium.

Paige A. Dauparas, a Gatton College accounting senior from Mokena, Illinois, has been selected to present the 23rd annual Edward T. Breathitt Undergraduate Lectureship in the Humanities at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, in the UK Athletics Auditorium at William T. Young Library. Dauparas' free public lecture focuses on diversity and how the search for individuality impacts unity. She is also majoring in English and Spanish literature and culture.

Gatton’s Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) was featured on UK’s radio show “UK At the Half” during the Cats exciting win over North Carolina on December 17. The SMIF, with the endorsement of the UK Board of Trustees, manages an investment portfolio of several million dollars. Finance adjunct faculty member and 2001 Gatton grad Quint Tatro, who leads the SMIF, talked about the Seale Finance Learning Center’s state-of-the-art trading capacity. “It has unbelievable potential to bring practical money management application to the students,” he said.
