Gatton’s Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) was featured on UK’s radio show “UK At the Half” during the Cats exciting win over North Carolina on December 17. The SMIF, with the endorsement of the UK Board of Trustees, manages an investment portfolio of several million dollars. Finance adjunct faculty member and 2001 Gatton grad Quint Tatro, who leads the SMIF, talked about the Seale Finance Learning Center’s state-of-the-art trading capacity. “It has unbelievable potential to bring practical money management application to the students,” he said.

The Kentucky Blood Center's Big Blue Slam, which is Kentucky's annual competition against Florida, will be coming to the Gatton College of Business and Economics on Monday, January 23rd and Tuesday, January 24th from 10am - 4pm in Gatton's Woodward Events Hall . With over 2300 students along with the faculty and staff, the Gatton College has the ability to make a huge impact on the lives of Kentucky patients with their blood donations.

Nancy Johnson, Associate Dean of International Affairs and Associate Professor of Management in the Gatton College, has been honored with the UK Confucius Institute’s 2016 Outstanding Faculty Award. This award recognizes faculty who have done outstanding work towards the understanding of and learning about China on campus and beyond. The Steering Committee of the Confucius Institute selected Dr. Johnson to receive this award based on her work developing partnerships with Chinese institutions and working with Chinese students and Chinese scholars at Gatton.

The Kentucky Society of CPAs (KyCPA) recently recognized outstanding accounting educators at its awards banquet at the Hyatt Regency in Louisville, including the University of Kentucky’s Jane Wells. Wells received an Educator Who Made a Difference award from the organization.

Wells was nominated by Vickie Richardson of Vickie C. Richardson CPA PSC, in Mt. Sterling. In her nomination, Richardson said she was inspired by Wells' real-world accounting experience, and touched by her thoughtful encouragement.

The University of Kentucky's Gatton College of Business & Economics is hosting their 2017 One Year MBA Open House event on Thursday, January 26th from 5:30pm - 7:00pm in Woodward Events Hall – Room 307. This event will focus on the full-time, accelerated One Year MBA program along with each of the dual degree program options in Engineering, Law, Pharmacy and Medicine.

Citigroup whistleblower Richard Bowen will be on the University of Kentucky campus on Friday (Oct. 28) to share his story with students, faculty and staff at the Gatton College of Business and Economics. Bowen’s presentation is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in the college’s Kincaid Auditorium. Admission is free and members of the community are welcome to attend.

Bowen will discuss his effort to warn Citigroup about the possibility of a financial crisis due to faulty mortgage loans before the market officially crashed in 2008.

On Friday (Oct. 7), alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends of the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics will gather to celebrate the official grand opening of the new facility. The celebration will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Gatton’s Kincaid Auditorium.

The Von Allmen School of Accountancy was recognized among only four accounting programs in the U.S. to achieve 100% pass rates on both parts of the CMA (Certified Management Accountant) exam, a global designation that tests management accounting knowledge and skills. Strategic Finance magazine recognized UK as one of the schools that "best prepare their students for the exam." UK was also top 4 in the SEC for the number of candidates taking the exam.
