Roberto Matus is the Vice President and Head of Latin America Government Relations at MetLife, a global provider of life insurance, annuities, employee benefits and asset management. In his role, he leads the U.S. support for MetLife’s government and industry relations for the company’s international businesses in Latin America. Matus represents MetLife’s interests before U.S. and foreign governments and manages relationships with international trade and industry associations.

Prior to joining MetLife, Matus was the CEO and General Manager for the American Chamber of Commerce in Chile, (AmCham Chile), where he served from 2013 until March 2017. In this position he was responsible for ensuring that AmCham Chile complied with its mission of promoting business and free trade between Chile and the United States.

Matus previously was a member of the Chilean Foreign Service for more than 20 years. In this capacity from 2009 to 2013 he was the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Chile to the United States.

Between the years 1999 and 2003 Matus was the Economic and Trade Attaché of the Embassy of Chile in the United States. In this post he was responsible for the negotiation strategy and later approval in the U.S. Congress of the Free Trade Agreement between Chile and the United States.

Matus holds a professional degree in Commercial Engineering and has completed postgraduate studies in the U.S. in the areas of international trade and strategic management.
