I am Peter Wetzlar, I graduated from Gatton in May of 2020 with a dual degree in finance and accounting. I had accepted a Tax position in the Lexington Crowe office, with start date in October of 2020. Due to covid our start date was pushed back to January to accommodate for the online onboarding to be refined.

Fortunately, because of the start date being moved I was able to study and pass 3 of the 4 CPA exam sections. Concurrently, I was still training as a swimmer with aspirations of competing at the Tokyo Olympics which were also pushed back to 2021. I started at Crowe and continued to train in my garage and the local YMCA and once the University of Kentucky allowed non students to train on campus I went back to train for the remaining months leading up to the 2021 games. I competed in Tokyo with so much support from my colleagues who all woke up very early to watch me swim in the prelims of the 100 freestyle.

After the Olympics I finished the last leg of the CPA exams and got my license in January of 2022. In the spring of 2022 an opportunity in the rapidly growing Income Tax Provision group showed interest and I transitioned to the Tax Accounting Services group in October after a promotion to senior associate.

I have spent a year and a half in the provision group and have grown my technical knowledge base significantly, teaching continuing professional education classes internally at Crowe in Valuation Allowances, Uncertain Tax Positions, and Tax Accounting For Auditors. I have had opportunities to audit and prepare provisions for public and private entities.
