Steven Skinner D.B.A.
Interim Dean, Warren W. Rosenthal Professor of Marketing
Steven J. Skinner was named interim dean of the Gatton College of Business and Economics on January 8, 2018.
A member of the Gatton College faculty since 1982, Dr. Skinner previously served as Director of the School of Management, Chair of the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain, and Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, and taught undergraduate and graduate courses in marketing. He played critical roles in restructuring the School of Management into three new departments, leading a revision of the one-year MBA curriculum, and early planning of the UK-University of Louisville Executive MBA program, among many others. He has also contributed as a member or chair of numerous college and university committees and task forces. Before joining the University of Kentucky, Dr. Skinner served on the faculty at Illinois State University, and was a research administrator for State Farm Insurance Companies. He has also served as a consultant for a variety of large and small organizations.
Dr. Skinner is the author of Marketing, Second Edition, a college textbook published by Houghton Mifflin, and co-author of Management: Quality and Competitiveness and Business for the 21st Century published by Richard D. Irwin. He is also co-author of The New Banker: Developing Leadership in a Dynamic Era, a widely acclaimed professional book published by Irwin Professional Publishing.
His research has been published in a number of journals, including the Journal of Marketing Research, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Business Research, Public Opinion Quarterly, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Risk and Insurance, and Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management. Dr. Skinner has received the Mu Kappa Tau Award for the best article in Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management. He served on the board of contributing advisers of the Marketing Educator Review, and on the editorial review board of the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management.
