Research Experience Program (REP)

Welcome to the Research Experience Program Home Page (REP)

Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

Research is the process of going up alleys to see if they are blind.

Marston Bates

We at the Gatton College of Business and Economics feel that it is important to introduce our students to business research. Each semester, introductory business classes (MGT 301, MKT 300, and FIN 300) participate in the Research Experience Program (REP) and must earn 3 units of research experience in order to receive credit for REP classes. Students earn research experience units by participating in studies as a volunteer or by writing summaries of research articles or some combination of these two. Failure to satisfy the REP requirement will result in an incomplete grade in the course.

** Important Disclaimer: The Research Experience Program (REP) is administered directly by the Gatton College of Business and Economics and not by any particular faculty member or instructor. In most cases, faculty members and instructors are unaware of the specifics of the operations of the Research Experience Program. Please do not direct any questions to your faculty member or instructor. All questions regarding this program should be sent directly to the program administrators via email (

Handouts Explaining REP to Students

Below is a handout to explain REP. Students are asked to please follow the instructions carefully. In order to participate in REP, students need to create an account with Sona Systems. This account should be created immediately upon reviewing the handout. Volunteer opportunities to participate in research studies are on a first-come, first-served basis so it is important that students make every effort to sign up as soon as possible for research studies. Regardless of students' opportunities to participate as volunteers in a research study, all students are eligible to fulfill the requirements of the program by writing an article summary.
