MD/MBA

A Dual Degree of the University of Kentucky's College of Medicine and Gatton College of Business and Economics

Healthcare and business are increasingly interconnected. While hospital administrators need a solid medical and business background, it is the physicians who are increasingly confronted with complex business decisions. In response to this need, the University of Kentucky's Gatton College of Business and Economics and the College of Medicine offers the MD/MBA dual degree program awarding both a Medical Doctorate (MD) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees.

Admissions & Preparatory Courses

Students interested in the MD/MBA program must apply formally and independently to both colleges and meet the admission requirements of each. Current medical students are eligible only if no more than one full-time semester has been completed. Before applying into the MBA program, please review the Admissions Requirements and updated GMAT/GRE Waiver Policy.

The MBA faculty assumes that all new students possess a profiency in basic accounting and economics. As a result, the following MBA Preparatory courses are required to be completed: Micro Economics, Macro Economics, Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting. For all majors (except for Engineering, Finance and Mathematics) the following courses are also strongly recommended: Business Math & Statistics and Excel for MBA. After careful examination of each applicant's prior coursework, the MBA Admissions Committee will make specific recommendations concerning which courses (if any) will be required. The program recommends that all required MBA preparatory courses be satisfied by the application deadlines. Please see the link below for options to satisfy the required MBA Preparatory courses, along with additional information found on the College of Medicine website.
