JD/MBA

A Dual Degree of the University of Kentucky's College of Law and Gatton College of Business and Economics

The University of Kentucky's Gatton College of Business and Economics and the College of Law offer you the opportunity to obtain the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and Juris Doctor (JD) degrees in a dual degree program. Because both schools recognize that some aspects of business and law are compatible and interrelated, you can obtain both degrees in three years instead of the four and one-half to five years required if the degrees were pursued separately. With the JD/MBA, you will be able to open doors to specialized employment opportunities, gain marketable skills in less time and with a smaller financial investment.

Admissions & Preparatory Courses

Students interested in the JD/MBA program must apply formally and independently to both colleges and meet the admission requirements of each. Current first-year law students are eligible only if no more than one full-time semester has been completed. Before applying into the MBA program, please review the Admissions Requirements and updated GMAT/GRE Waiver Policy.

The MBA faculty assumes that all new students possess a profiency in basic accounting and economics. As a result, the following MBA Preparatory courses are required to be completed: Micro Economics, Macro Economics, Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting. For all majors (except for Engineering, Finance and Mathematics) the following courses are also strongly recommended: Business Math & Statistics and Excel for MBA. After careful examination of each applicant's prior coursework, the MBA Admissions Committee will make specific recommendations concerning which courses (if any) will be required. The program recommends that all required MBA preparatory courses be satisfied by the application deadlines. Please see the link below for options to satisfy the required MBA Preparatory courses, along with additional information found on the College of Law website.
