The University of Kentucky's Engineering/MBA dual degree is a unique program that intersects technology and business, awarding both the Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees. This highly competitive program gives students the technical expertise and business acumen necessary to lead in today’s constantly evolving industries.


Admissions & Preparatory Courses

The Engineering/MBA dual degree is a five-year program culminating with the awarding of both the Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees. It is a highly competitive program with limits on the number of applicants. Before applying into the MBA program, please review the Admissions Requirements.

The MBA faculty assumes that all new students possess a profiency in basic accounting and economics. As a result, the following MBA Preparatory courses are required to be completed: Micro Economics, Macro Economics, Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting. For all majors (except for Engineering, Finance and Mathematics) the following courses are also strongly recommended: Business Math & Statistics and Excel for MBA. After careful examination of each applicant's prior coursework, the MBA Admissions Committee will make specific recommendations concerning which courses (if any) will be required. The program recommends that all required MBA preparatory courses be satisfied by the application deadlines. Program Description & Curriculum

Combine your technical skills with a business savvy

In recognition of the increasing need for the integration of technology and business administration, the Engineering/MBA dual degree program was established to give students with technical backgrounds in engineering and computer science the leadership, communication, problem solving and team-building skills while increasing their knowledge in economics, finance, marketing, management and much more. The Engineering/MBA dual degree program includes three components:

  • Exclusive enrichment activities during the undergraduate senior year
  • One Year MBA
  • International study experience

Program Overview

Dual Degree Program with One Year MBA

Year 1: Take engineering courses as scheduled.
Year 2: Take engineering courses as scheduled.
Year 3: Take engineering courses as scheduled. Engineering/MBA dual degree application invitations are sent to qualified candidates, scheduled for interviews and instructed on how to apply along with other program specifics.*
Year 4: Take engineering courses as scheduled and attend exclusive enrichment activities. Start/submit application to the MBA program through the Graduate School Application, satisfy the MBA Admissions Requirements and complete the required MBA Preparatory Courses.**
Year 5: One Year MBA program, including the two week International Study experience.

Please note:
*The Engineering/MBA dual degree program is open to all engineering and computer science students who have completed their junior year with a GPA ≥ 3.25. During the summer of Junior year, students who meet these criteria, will be invited to apply for admission to the dual degree program. Students that receive an invitation, but have more than 3 semesters of undergraduate study remaining, should defer application until the next year.

**Admission to the Engineering/MBA dual degree program does not constitute admission to the MBA program. Program participants must formally apply for admission to the graduate school by the admissions deadlines. Admission to the Engineering/MBA dual degree program entitles students to participate in the enrichment activities during their senior year, receive possible scholarship assistance in the MBA program and take advantage of the international study abroad experience.
