Xiaodan (Dan) Zhao is a Ph.D. student in economics, University of Kentucky. He got his Bachelor’s degree in the Central University of Finance & Economics in Beijing, China. Interest in macroeconomics and econometrics in the graduate coursework led him to doctoral study in international trade and monetary economics. In his dissertation research he has focused on theories and empirical issues related to currency union, monetary integration and global liberalization. He is writing three essays on currency unions in the CFA franc zone in West Africa, the Eastern Caribbean countries, and East Asia. He has completed rough drafts of all three essays and is planning to complete and defend his dissertation in early next year.
He is prepared to teach economics at any levels of undergraduate classes. At the University of Kentucky, he has taught Principle of Microeconomics in classes ranging in size from 40 to 120 students; at the Lexington Community College, he taught economics to small classes of 15. In teaching, he mixes theories with extensive examples and group exercises. He also encourages students to engage in inductive assignments and group discussion.
