Using a variety of research methods, Dr. Santhanam has investigated issues relating to the effective use of resources invested in information technologies(IT). From a micro-perspective, her research on Human-Computer Interaction has examined theory and methods by which training and system interfaces can be designed to foster user learning and effective use of IT. From a macro perspective, her research on decision support support systems and IT investments has proposed methods by which organizations can manage and make optimal use of organizational resources. Her research findings are presented at conferences and invited seminars; they are also published in a variety of journals, including MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, International Journal of Human-Computer Studies, Information and Organization, Information Technology and Management, European Journal of Information Systems, Computers & Operations Research, and European Journal of Operational Research.
Dr. Santhanam has taught courses such as, systems analysis and design, decision support/expert systems, data communications, and organizational information systems, to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. She was the recipient of the Florida State Teaching Incentive Award in 1995. She has chaired several dissertation committees.
She currently serves as an associate editor of Information Systems Research, Decision Support Systems, and member of the editorial board of Enterprise Information Systems. She served as an associate editor of MIS Quarterly and was a member of the editorial board of Computers and Operations Research. She was the program co-chair of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS) Conference on Information Systems and Technologies (CIST), 2003, and the Association for Information Systems (AIS) Americas Conference on Information Systems, 2005.
