Cecil C. Carpenter is the former dean of the University of Kentucky’s College of Commerce. He was appointed dean in 1948 and served the university for sixteen years. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, he returned to UK and held a variety of different responsibilities throughout his career. He first joined the university as a professor of economics. Dr. Carpenter also served as student loan officer and as an unofficial financial advisor to university President H. L. Donovan. He began the Kentucky Banking School and was instrumental in student placement. In 1952 he instituted the UK MBA program.
