Dr. Erin Abouzaid, Director, Office of the CIO at Hutchin Hill Capital in New York City, will discuss career paths for students interested in mathematics and finance drawing on her own experience going from a BS in math and physics and a PhD in experimental high energy physics to jobs at a custodial bank, a university endowment, and a hedge fund. From the perspective of an employer, she will describe the skills that are valued in the finance industry, ranging from those that are purely technical and quantitative to those involving writing and communication.

Dr. Abouzaid joined Hutchin Hill, a multi-strategy hedge fund, in May 2016 to work directly with the firm's partners on strategy and performance analysis, allocation of capital and other resources, setting and codifying investment risk limits, and speaking to investors and prospects about the fund. Prior to joining Hutchin Hill, she was Chief Investment Officer of the Stony Brook Foundation. Prior to Stony Brook, she worked in the Portfolio and Risk Management Group at State Street Global Markets. Before that, she was a High Energy Physics Research Assistant at the University of Chicago. Dr. Abouzaid earned a PhD in physics from the University of Chicago and a B.S. in physics and math from the University of Richmond.
