Bachelor in Business Administration - Decision Science and Information Systems

This degree program focuses on Business Analytics, which involves integrating technology and quantitative methods to process and analyze data to create insights into organizational decision-making. Business analysts help organizations reach timely and optimal decisions leading to actions that yield strong performance and sustained competitiveness in the context of today's turbulent, fast-paced, global business environment. This program offers small classes and insight into application areas such as information systems, operations, and supply chain management.

Decision Science and Information Systems - Degree Requirements

To earn the bachelor of business administration (BBA) degree in decision science, students in the Gatton College of Business and Economics must fulfill University Studies requirements, the College premajor and major requirements, and College core requirements.

This degree requires a minimum 120 semester hours. Students must complete the premajor courses for DSIS majors and 18 credit hours within the major.

DSIS Major Requirements:

All DSIS Majors will take all 7 of the following courses beginning 2010-2011. To enroll in any of our courses, except for DIS 450, a DSIS Major must have completed all College Pre-major requirements and have been admitted to Upper Division. Requirements for DIS 450 appear below:-

COURSES RECOMMENDED FOR THE FALL TERM OF YOUR JUNIOR YEAR:

DIS 300 – Analyzing Business Operations. Pre-requisites -- Completion of all college pre-major requirements and admission to Upper Division in Business and Economics. Typically offered in Fall, Spring, and some Summers.

DIS 390 – Special Topics in Analytics: Supply Chain Management. Pre-requisites -- Completion of all college pre-major requirements and admission to Upper Division in Business and Economics. Non-B&E Upper Division undergraduate students may be enrolled with the consent of the instructor. Typically offered only in Fall.

COURSES RECOMMENDED FOR THE SPRING TERM OF YOUR JUNIOR YEAR:


DIS 320 – Information Systems in the Modern Enterprise. Pre-requisites -- Completion of all college pre-major requirements and admission to Upper Division in Business and Economics. Non-B&E Upper Division undergraduate students who are not Business Minors may be enrolled at the consent of the instructor. Typically offered in Fall and Spring.

DIS 390 -- Special Topics in Analytics: Business Data Management. Pre-requisites -- Completion of all college pre-major requirements and admission to Upper Division in Business and Economics. Non-B&E Upper Division undergraduate students may be enrolled with the consent of the instructor. Typically offered only in Spring.

AN INTERNSHIP, CO-OP, OR EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM, PREFERABLY USING YOUR DSIS TRAINING AND SKILLS, IS VERY STRONGLY RECOMMENDED FOR THE SUMMER PRECEDING YOUR SENIOR YEAR.

DIS 350 – Analytics: Models & Methods. Pre-requisites -- Completion of all college pre-major requirements and admission to Upper Division in Business and Economics. Non-B&E Upper Division undergraduate students may be enrolled with the consent of the instructor. Typically offered only in Fall.

DIS 520 – Advanced Topics in Analytics – Data Mining. Pre-requisites -- Completion of all college pre-major requirements and admission to Upper Division or Graduate Student status in Business and Economics. Non-B&E Upper Division undergraduate students and graduate students may be enrolled with the consent of the instructor. Typically offered only in Fall.

COURSES RECOMMENDED FOR THE SPRING TERM OF YOUR SENIOR YEAR:

DIS 450 – Analytics: Technologies. Pre-requisites -- Senior standing in the College of Business and Economics; B&E undergraduate students must have completed 9 of the 18 credits required for a DSIS major. Non-B&E Upper Division undergraduate students may be enrolled with the consent of the instructor. Typically offered only in Spring.
