Career Development
- Know who you are and what you want. Company representatives state that the number one problem with student interviewees is that they don’t have “clear objectives”. There are tests and counselors available to help you focus.
- Keep up with grades and assignments. A good grade point average is important.
- Research your “dream job” by informational interviews or shadowing.
- Get “real world” experience with internships, part-time work, and service projects. First, attend an Internship Info Session.
- Learn to develop and utilize a “network”. Networking is “cultivating relationships” with others. Become genuinely interested in people. Learn to remember names. Listen. Keep track of interesting people and be of service to them. Keep in touch.
- Have excellent “correspondences”: resumes, cover letter, thank you letters etc. Information is available at the Katherine Kemper Library at the Stuckert Career Center.
- Use services that are available to you! Wildcat CareerLink is our online internship and job posting system (that’s where the jobs are). Workshops are available on: Resume writing, interviewing, job search, and other topics. Information available.
- Do a practice “mock” interview. Contact the Azetta Williams at 257-5348 or email. Or call the Stuckert Career Center at 859.257.2746 to schedule an appointment with Ms. Williams
- Attend Career Fairs. The Business Career Fair is every September
- Research companies. Employers want applicants that have good skills, have a passion for the work, and want to work for them. Know why you want a particular organization.
