Our graduates are world-ready.

With our doctoral graduates teaching and working in more than 20 states and several countries, it¹s easy to see that our graduates are successful. And you can join them.

For nearly 80 years, the Gatton College of Business and Economics has been preparing men and women for careers in business. By pursuing an advanced degree in business administration at the Gatton College of Business and Economics, you¹ll be ready to meet the challenges of today¹s business and teaching worlds, ready to conduct cutting-edge research and ready to be a leader in your field.

Our main mission for the doctoral program in business administration is to prepare students for successful academic careers. As a doctoral student, you will be prepared to comprehend and evaluate research, to perform research which advances knowledge and to provide effective instruction, all within a business-related discipline. Specifically, the program is designed to
provide:

  • an academic understanding of the philosophies and basic methodological
    issues of academic inquiry;
  • an understanding of the theoretical foundations and state-of-the-art
    research methods in a specific discipline; and,
  • the ability to design and execute substantive research projects

Whether your concentration is accounting, management, decision science and information systems, finance or marketing, earning your Ph.D. in business administration from the Gatton College will give you the edge you need in academics or business. And key to obtaining this is personalized attention that is essential to the training of doctoral students. With this in mind, each fall approximately 20-25 new students are admitted to the program.
During an academic year, an estimated 50 students (first and second year) are in the coursework phase and close to 25 are working on their dissertations. Because of our smaller numbers and maintained admissions standards, you will benefit from extensive contact with faculty members in their respective areas.

And at the completion of your doctoral studies, you will join the ranks of Gatton College alumni as a fully trained expert in your chosen field.
