Devanathan Sudharshan became the sixth dean of the Gatton College of Business and Economics on July 1, 2003. Before joining the Gatton College administration, Dean Sudharshan was a Professor at the University of Illinois for 20 years. He served as Associate Dean of Planning in the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's Department of Business Administration from 1997 to 2000.

Since joining the College, Dean Sudharshan has spearheaded a new brand identity campaign, implemented a new 11-month MBA program, and designed a world-ready Global Scholars Program for highly motivated undergraduate students.

His research interests are in marketing strategy, new product and service development, and marketing technology management. His international executive instructional experience includes teaching in Poland, Kenya, China, Greece, and Austria. Sudharshan serves on several editorial boards, and has articles published in numerous national and international journals of marketing and management.

He earned his Bachelor of Technology degree in electrical engineering in 1974 from the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras, India, and his Doctorate in Business Administration in 1982 from the University of Pittsburgh.
