Lexington,
the "Heart of the Bluegrass," is recognized as the "Horse Capital of the
World." With a population over 250,000,
it features many of the cultural advantages of a large city, but it exudes
the charm and beauty of a small town.
Lexington is
at the center of a thirty-one-state distribution area, within a five-hundred-mile
radius of nearly three-fourths of the manufacturing, retail sales, and
population of the United States. Lexington is home to major industries
such as Toyota USA, Lexmark International Inc., and Ashland Oil, Inc.
This combination of clean industries, scenic horse farms, and the ambience
of a university town is unique to Lexington.
Historic beauty
is another facet of the Bluegrass area. If you drive in any direction
from Lexington, you will be surrounded by restored homes and farms. Also
nearby is the college community of Berea, one of the nation's best known
arts and crafts centers.
Lexington is a great place to live.
- Nine major shopping centers cater to every taste and budget.
- Over two hundred restaurants offer a variety of cuisines including American, Mexican, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Russian, Vietnamese, Thai, Indian, and Japanese.
The Lexington
music scene is typical of that in large college towns, with local
groups and national concert tours performing both on and off campus. In
addition to the many bars, restaurants, and dance clubs, there are a number
of local cafes, coffee houses, and bookstores popular with Gatton MBA
students.
Lexington offers a variety of cultural opportunities. Performing arts thrive through the Opera House, Singletary Center for the Arts, Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra, Lexington Ballet, Actors' Guild, Children's Theater, Lexington Singers, and a number of smaller groups. Each summer the Shakespeare in the Park series, Picnic with the Pops, and Ballet Under the Stars draw enthusiastic audiences.
