As an M.S. and Ph.D. in economics student you will

  • study with faculty who are experts in their fields,
  • work with bright and capable students and
  • obtain a vast amount of knowledge of your field.

As an M.S. in economics student you will enjoy a certain degree of flexibility in a program of advanced economic study. Our M.S. in economics program provides excellent preparation for initial employment as a researcher in government, business, and other organizations. The program can also be structured to prepare you for further graduate work in economics and related fields.

Our Ph.D. program is designed so you can make steady progress and finish the Ph.D. in four years. As a Ph.D. student you will spend the first year taking microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, as well as mathematical methods, statistics, and econometrics. Preliminary exams in micro and macro are taken at the end of the first year. Additional courses in micro theory and econometrics are taken in the second year, you will begin taking advanced seminar courses in two fields of concentration. In the third year, you'll finish field coursework and begin working on your dissertation research. Dissertation research and writing take up the fourth year of the program.
