Our Business Friends

The Gatton College of Business and Economics is proud of its long tradition of business partnerships and support for the college by the business community.

Chellgren Lecturer Series

The Chellgren Visiting Lecturer Series was established by former Ashland Inc. Chairman Paul W. Chellgren in 1999. The lecture series was created to bring "individuals of national and international renown" to address the UK community and enrich the educational programs of the UK Gatton College of Business and Economics.

Chris Sullivan, Outback Steakhouse founder, delivered the 2004 Chellgren Lecture. The title of his speech was "Putting People First Generates a Culture for Success."

Visiting Executives

Every year the Gatton College hosts a number of visiting business executives. Some like Roger Shipke, former CEO of Sunbeam Corporation and former Senior VP for General Electric's worldwide appliance operations, regularly teach a Gatton College course. Others, like Jim Rogers, President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of CINergy Corporation, Gretchen Price, VP, Finance & Accounting, Global Operations of P&G, and David Novak, President and CEO of Yum Foods, share their experiences and insights in special events such as our Chellgren Visiting Lecture Series.

Project Connect Program

In redefining our One Year MBA Program, we have also redefined the internship experience by integrating it into the body of our immersive curriculum. In our Project Connect Program, we pair teams of students with a corporation. Over 23 weeks, each company provides the team with three projects of importance to their corporation. One project involves new product development, another supply chain management, the third mergers and acquisitions. The teams devote 50 to 80 hours per person to each project, working with the executive and his or her designates to identify issues and problems and develop solutions. Each project culminates with deliverables including a presentation to the executives management team.
