Acceptance into the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain's Ph.D. program marks the beginning of an exciting and challenging career. By describing your responsibilities as a doctoral student we hope to facilitate your progress toward earning a Ph.D. But first and foremost, we emphasize that this is your program. You alone will determine your success or failure. Nothing happens, regardless of background and intelligence, if students do not have the desire and drive to complete the degree.
What separates a Ph.D. from other degree holders? It has been said that Ph.D.s are students who are willing to beat their heads against brick walls until the walls give way. This imagery conveys the determination required. If you are accepted into the program, you have demonstrated a certain level of intelligence that makes us believe you can do the work. You must supply the hard labor.
We will surround you with faculty who once completed this and with capable, hard-working student colleagues. Please do not underestimate the importance of others in the program. They will be valuable allies throughout the journey and for the balance of your career.
