Applications for admission to the program should be submitted directly to:

Complete instructions for applying can be obtained from the Graduate Schools website. The application form can be filled out online or by hard copy via mail. The application fee can be paid online with a credit card or via mail with a check. Applying and paying the fee online speeds up the process significantly.

The Graduate School requires the following items for application:

  1. Application form
  2. Application fee
  3. Two copies of official transcripts of all previous college work sent directly from the Registrars Office of your college or university directly to the Graduate School (copies of transcripts sent directly by students are not acceptable.)
  4. Official Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores
  5. For students whose native language is not English, official TOEFL scores

The program is designed for students to enter and begin work in the fall. For domestic students, applications must be submitted no later than one month prior to the start of the term the applicant intends to begin graduate work. All application materials (including all transcripts and official scores) must be received by this deadline.Domestic students who wish to be considered for financial assistance should note the earlier deadline, February 1, for financial aid decisions.For international students, applications for admission must be received by the Graduate School by the following deadlines.

  • Fall semester deadline: February 1 Spring semester deadline: June 15
  • Summer sessions deadline: October 1

The Graduate School will not consider an application until all supporting documents have been received and the application file is complete. The Graduate School cannot guarantee full consideration of application files that remain incomplete (i.e., missing transcripts or official scores) after May 1 for fall admission or September 15 for spring admission.

After completing the application requirements for the Graduate School, prospective graduate students should also submit the following materials directly to:

  1. A resume
  2. A one-to-two page personal essay about why you want to attend graduate school in economcs
  3. Two or three confidential letters of recommendation. There is no form for these letters. If mailed with the application the lettersshould be in separate signed and sealed envelopes and not seen by the applicant.
  4. Copies of transcripts and GRE and TOEFL scores if your native language is not English. Official copies are not necessary for the Department; however, official copies should be sent to the Graduate School (see above). Sending copies of these materials directly to the Department will reduce delays in the admissions process.

Along with the other application materials, the information in these items will be considered by the Economics Department in its admission and financial aid decision.
