Biography:
John Garen is Professor of Economics at the University of Kentucky. He previously was Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky, Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Chicago, and Assistant Professor at Wayne State University. He received his Ph.D. in economics in 1982 from Ohio State University, his M.A. in economics from Ohio State in 1978, and a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Washington in 1976. Professor Garen's research focuses on the economics of incentive systems, economic organization, and labor and human resource economics. His work on incentive systems is published in such journals as the Journal of Political Economy, Economic Inquiry, and the Journal of Institutional and Theoretical Economics, while his research on economic organization is published in the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Managerial and Decision Economics, Economic Inquiry, and the Journal of Labor Research. Professor Garen's work on wages and employment has appeared in numerous journals, including Econometrica, the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Journal of Human Resources, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, and Research in Labor Economics.
